« theclansman : How exactly are they being penalized?

This is just another pethatic childish act by a church that is seeing its members leave in droves. Sorry, but it doesn't count as charity when you try and use it to extort a government body.

I just don't think that we should be constantly subjected to whining gays and worse, made to agree with their way of life.

Homosexuality is a scourge on family life, morals and values and people who say so are all too often silenced by the gay right.

I just feel that homosexuals are not the norm, heterosexuality is therefore trying to push it into the mainstream is going against the status quo, a status quo that's seen us fine up to now

OK, here is my thought. I am not saying it's a good though or even the correct thought, but here it is.

The Catholic church has social programs including adoption services.

The Catholic church feels that homosexuality is wrong.

If gay marriage becomes legal, gay couples could go to Catholic adoption services and expect to be treated as a married couple.

If they are turned away because of a religious belief, then the gay couple is being discriminated against.

The Catholic church chooses to avoid the problem entirely by closing it's doors, thereby depriving a lot of other people good help.

I am not saying that most or even some gay couples would go to an adoption agency just to "prove a point", but some would. Just as some straight couples would try to bork the process the other way. Gay or Straight, you don't have a monopoly on dumb and bigoted.

So what's worse? The few people who say "we are married and DESERVE a kid from an institution that clearly disagrees with us. And if they don't give us one, we will sue and go all the way o the supreme court!" Or the group that just shuts off support to a lot of people for fear of what MAY happen.

I know I have my own opinion, but what do you say?

Looks to me that you should look up what "indoctrinated" means. Because just because we've got hundreds of generations before us, does not mean they were right, because they kept doing the same thing over and over and over again. They mindlessly followed and did what they were told by the powers in charge and never questioned whether it was right or wrong. That is pretty much the definition of a mindless sheep to me.

Now those powers are facing those who opened their minds and became aware of the bulls**t that has been shoved down THEIR thoats all those millenia, and then they suddenly are whining about that ? They complain that they can't discriminate, they complain they can't decide who is righteous, they complain they can't be sexist, they complain that THEIR morals are not enforced ? Morals that are barbaric in nature and not of this time.

And you AGREE with those powers ?
Who is the mindless sheep here ?

Sexism is the scourge of family life, a moral that is deplorable. And thinking that homosexuallity is a scourge on family life is just plain sexist, idiotic and a downright lie.

f**k off then, if you do not like it that people call people like you bigoted, because you think you have the "right" to determine who is allowed happiness ?

« dslovesplime:I wasn't referring to the minded sheep, just the mindless ones - I'm doing the math, and there are a lot more votes, than there are people commenting with intelligent thoughts.
Upvoting is a means of agreement on this site. Agreement != mindless following by any definition.

For those who read the article, and not just the headline, the Catholic Church is making a choice in line with their faith. They are not willing to compromise their faith in order so that the government should shove their ideals down its throat. They said they will cancel their contracts with the government to avoid being put in such a position, where they would have to compromise their morals.
You actually have a good point here. Now why didn't you say this instead of being such a brat before?

In this godless society where people do whatever the heck they want because - hey if it feels good, do it - it's nice to see people sticking to their beliefs.
Now see, I have a problem with this. First of all, you assume that godless = bad. Both religious and non-religious people do both good and bad things. Just because I don't believe in any god, it doesn't mean that I'm a bad person. I give to charity, am polite and helpful, abstain from criminal activities, and do my best not to be prejudicial and hateful. Once again, one does not have to believe in a god in order to be a decent human being.

Yes, yes, we all hate the religious for having the audacity to hold on to a tradition that has been around for thousands of years. Yes, we are the elite society - smarter than all the generations before us. We are arrogant enough to say - WE KNOW OUR MODERN DAY MORALS ARE RIGHT.

No - who is dumb enough to think that maybe hundred of generations of human beings could have been right.
The reason more and more people are pulling away from the mentality of gay = evil, non-Christian = evil, etc., is that times are changing. The world is growing smaller. As we, as humans, grow in our knowledge of our similarities and differences, we realize that we are not that different at all. And what differences we do have should be celebrated, not be a cause for hatred.

Think about it. Why has homosexuality been condemned? Because gay couples cannot reproduce. But you know what? They can. Lesbians can become pregnant from donor sperm; gay men can father children with donor eggs grown by surrogate mothers. So why do some people still think homosexuality = evil? It can't be because it's "not natural", because it is. Homosexuality has a genetic basis and has been observed in hundreds of species.

There is no reason to give gays fewer rights than straight people have. None. At. All. You may not want to hear this, but the Bible was written by people who didn't have the 2000 years worth of experience and knowledge that we do. They didn't know that the world is round. They didn't know that diseases are caused by organisms too small to be seen with the naked eye. They didn't know how to build nuclear bombs, combustion engines, or computers. They didn't know how to create vaccines, super glue, or food preservatives.

And with scientific knowledge comes a responsibility to alter our perceptions of the world around us. If you know that your cows died of a virus, it would be just plain stupid to accuse your neighbor of being a witch.
Downvote away - I'm sick of playing nice with the arrogant mindless sheep.
But you haven't been "playing nice". The first half of this comment aside, all the comments of yours that I've read have been immature, ill-informed, self-righteous, and rude.

**deep breaths** Yeah, screw those whiny gays who want to have actual rights! And screw those black people who wanted to be able to vote and to be seen as human beings! And screw the women who wanted to be able to vote and to be seen as human beings! How dare they upset the status quo! How dare they desire to be equal to all the straight, white, Christian males who rule the universe!! A pox on them all!!

No, people haven't open their minds. They've rebelled. People do what they want, because it is probably the most selfish generation in the history of mankind since.

And Mennufer - I know homosexuality has been around for a long time - as it's in the bible, it must be at least 2 thousand years old, right? You know some people's natural tendencies can interfere with another's way of life. If I am an exhibitionist, why should I not be allowed to streak in public - just because some people are prudes? Just because a person may have an inborn moral compass, does not make it right. What separates people from animals is not just the ability to talk. It's the ability to reason. It's the ability to not react on instinct alone.

And next year, when they come out with a law for those who like to streak and defecate in public, that since its inborn they have a right to do it - well I'll be here complaining my nonsensical, ill-informed, immature self-righteous and rude point of view.

And I have been playing nice - till today.

Sentences work better when they are complete, fyi.

And as I have said before, does that make infertile heterosexuals unnatural, too? They can't reproduce naturally either. Burn them at the stake while we're at it? Or just stop them from marrying?

Actually, I have no problem with public nudity. Nudity has absolutely nothing to do with morality. If it did, then half the friggin' world would be immoral just because they don't have a problem with public nudity.

And next year, when they come out with a law for those who like to streak and defecate in public, that since its inborn they have a right to do it - well I'll be here complaining my nonsensical, ill-informed, immature self-righteous and rude point of view.
You're equating public nudity with public defecation? Seriously? Public defecation is a health hazard. Nudity is not.

And I have been playing nice - till today.

And why isn't it okay? Where's your evidence? What has happened to society that has actually been negative as a result? There definitely has been an increase in close mindedness from fundies and bigots. How exactly has it been a scourge? Are gays more prone to violence? Theft? Pedophelia? Corruption? Back up your argument, otherwise it's just an opinion.

Are you trying to equate the two? Wow. Brilliant!!!

A person's inability to have children is not a statement on the entire genus. It is an unusual, and tragic occurrence. The species (see if you can follow me here, as I know you had problems with my sentence structuring before) as a whole is designed - whether by nature or G-d or whatever - to only reproduce with a male-female union.
