Children should be taught about evolution to prevent them mistaking Barney and Fred Flintstone for scientific fact, an academic has claimed.
The failure to teach primary school children scientific truth is playing into the hands of advocates of creationism - according to James Williams, lecturer in education at Sussex University.

Apparently they assume that ALL children lack a spirit of discernment.
Watching cartoons teaches kids that the TV lies. I think that is a good lesson to learn early!
And not all lies are bad - fantasy is fun and funny, and ok!

I think a lot of kids are growing up without enough interaction with the 'real' world that they DO lack the spirit of discernment.
The daughter of a friend was drawing on a calendar, putting in fire works for the 4th of July, a jack-o-lantern for Halloween, etc. For Thanksgiving, she drew a turkey. With four legs. And didn't think it was odd.
I don't recall EVER hearing of any little kids who tried to hang in the air after running off a cliff like Wiley Coyote did, but there've been several kids who DIED emulating Dora the Explorer or Sponge Bob. Something is wrong with that....
